1:45Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump said he doesn’t “like a dictator” and is “not a dictator” during a press conference on Monday while discussing the safety of Democratic-led cities.
The statement comes amid some criticism over his decision to use the Washington, D.C., police force and to deploy National Guard troops to crack down on across the nation's capitol against what he says are threats around homelessness and crime. The president also suggested he'd do the same in other cities.
“I made the statement that next would be Chicago, because as you all know, Chicago is a killing field right now, and they don't acknowledge it,” Trump said.
“They say, ‘We don't need them — freedom, freedom. He's a dictator. He's a dictator.’ A lot of people are saying, ‘Maybe we'd like a dictator.’ I don't like a dictator. I'm not a dictator. I'm a man with great common sense, and I'm a smart person,” he added.
