YouTube Description
as posted by the channelAn estimated 20,000 took to the streets of Buñol, Spain Tuesday to participate in a food fight. More specifically, the 80th anniversary of the La Tomatina festival.
Food of choice: overripe tomatoes, 240,000 pounds of them to be exact.
The festival, said to be inspired by a 1945 food fight between children pelting tomatoes at each other, has been held every year, only suspended in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For Buñol, which was hit hard by flooding in 2024 that affected much of the Valencia region, the event was a resurgence. “After what we lived and suffered, with this [La Tomatina] we say, 'Valencians are here to make a comeback,'" Buñol Deputy Mayor Sergio Galarza said.
