as posted by the channelHamas must be "eliminated" for there to be peace in Gaza, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday.
"Hamas can no longer continue to exist as an armed element that threatens the peace and security, not just of Israel but of the world," Rubio said at a news briefing. "The people of Gaza deserve a better future, one that cannot begin until Hamas is eliminated and until all of the hostages, both living and deceased, are home."
Rubio met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem as Israel faces criticism for its attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar and over its plans to occupy Gaza City.
“Your presence here in Israel today is a clear message that America stands with Israel. You stand with us in the face of terror,” Netanyahu said.
Rubio is expected to travel to Qatar on Tuesday as the Trump administration hopes to ease tensions between Qatar and Israel.
