as posted by the channelThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's advisory committee decided Friday to postpone a vote on whether to stop recommending the hepatitis B vaccine for newborns.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices was considering delaying the vaccination to one month of age in all infants, except for those considered high risk.
Hepatitis B is highly infectious and can be transmitted during childbirth, which is why the CDC has recommended it for newborns since 1991.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s new panel of advisors had faced criticism over potentially changing the CDC's recommendation, which has helped keep infection rates down.
