1:14Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump said Ukraine should take back all of the territory it has lost over the course of Russia's invasion, marking a major shift in his position on the war.
"Three and a half years of fighting and killing everybody, killing 7,000 people a week, for nothing, for nothing," Trump said during his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday. "So it's a very sad situation ... let them get their land back."
The comments come shortly after Trump posted a similar sentiment on social media, saying "I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form."
It marks a significant about-face from Trump. During a contentious, on-camera Oval Office meeting in February, he told Zelenskyy he does not have "the cards" to negotiate. In August, Trump suggested that Ukraine may need to make territorial concessions to end the war.
