2:47Now PlayingIn his wide-ranging speech Tuesday before the United Nations General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that he and Brazil’s president will meet next week as tensions between their countries grow.
Trump said he and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, or Lula as he’s better known, briefly spoke as they passed each other on the path to the main speaker podium.
“I saw him, he saw me, and we embraced,” said Trump, whose remarks included criticism of Brazil for its tariffs on the U.S., as well as its prosecution of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, a Trump ally who was earlier this month found guilty of a coup plot.
“But he seemed like a very nice man, actually. He liked me, I liked him,” Trump said, prompting chatter and a smattering of applause from global leaders in the room.
“We actually agreed that we would meet next week,” though Trump didn’t provide more specifics around this possible meet-up.
