8:07As Israel and Hamas implement the first phase of the ceasefire deal, President Donald Trump seemed optimistic Thursday that his plans will end the war in Gaza and lead to "peace in the Middle East."
"A lot of things are happening, you know," Trump said during his cabinet meeting. "I gave you a whole list of 22 different things that will take place, and I think it will take place, and I think you're going to end up with peace in the Middle East."
The president also suggested his plans include creating "better conditions" for people in Gaza.
"We're going to create something where people can live," he said. "You can't live right now in Gaza ... it's a horrible situation."
Israel and Hamas on Wednesday agreed to the first phase of the U.S.-drafted deal to end the two-year-long war. It includes the release of all of the remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for the partial withdrawal of Israel's troops from the territory.
