That’s because most of the rummy nose tetra, guppy, betta fish, or nearly any fish you find in a home aquarium store aren’t native to the United States. And most of the home aquarium supplies to give your fish friend a colorful and fun place to live — aren’t made in the U.S. either.
PBS News’ Deema Zein travelled to Splashy Fish, a home aquarium store in Springfield, Virginia, to learn how small businesses are coping with higher costs, and spoke to Andrew Rhyne, who studies marine biology and the aquatic trade at Roger Williams University, about how the effects of tariffs are rippling across the industry.
