The last penny was pressed on Wednesday at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. The move comes after President Donald Trump's order earlier this year to stop producing the 1-cent coin.

It costs about 4 cents to create a single penny, and the Treasury Department says ending penny production will save American taxpayers approximately $56 million a year.
