Dozens of peaceful Indigenous protesters formed a human chain that blocked the main entrance of the United Nations COP30 climate summit in Brazil on Friday.

Traditionally dressed, the Munduruku group was calling for more recognition of indigenous voices in the climate negotiations and for an end to logging, mining and other development projects in the Amazon.

They also demanded a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, but eventually ended the protest after Conference president André Corrêa do Lago had a lengthy but seemingly amicable discussion with the group outside, cradling the baby of one of the protesters.

Friday’s demonstration was peaceful but it followed an incident on Tuesday where indigenous protesters forced their way into the COP 30 venue, clashing with security personnel.
