1:40Now PlayingA regional jet collided with a fire truck at New York City's LaGuardia Airport around 11:40 p.m. Sunday evening.
The fire truck had been responding to a separate incident and was crossing the runway as the Air Canada Regional Express jet Flight 8646 was landing.
The entire front of the aircraft was destroyed in the collision and the fire truck was left flipped on its side.
The flight from Montreal was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members. Both the pilot and co-pilot from the Air Canada jet were killed and dozens of others were injured including two officers from the fire truck.
The airport reopened Monday afternoon at reduced capacity following a full ground stop. A National Transportation Safety Board investigation is ongoing.
