7:41Now PlayingSen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., chair of the Senate Banking Committee, made an opening statement Tuesday in a confirmation hearing for Kevin Warsh, President Donald Trump’s pick for chair of the Federal Reserve.
Warsh, a former Fed official, was expected to face tough questioning about his own financial holdings, as well as the independence of the Federal Reserve under pressure from Trump to lower interest rates.
Republican Sen. Thom Tillis has also promised to block Warsh’s confirmation as long as the Trump administration continues its investigation of current Fed chair Jerome Powell.
