1:45Now PlayingRep. Michael McCaul said Wednesday that while "the majority" of his constituents support the ongoing war in Iran, they do not support getting bogged down in conflict in the Middle East.
He also accused Iran of trying to manipulate the conflict through negotiations, hoping that President Donald Trump would eventually back down under the political pressure of the midterm elections, given rising inflation and fuel prices.
"I don't think that's going to happen, though," McCaul added in an interview with PBS News' Amna Nawaz. "But we were all very aware back home [that] any time gas prices go up, affordability goes up. That's an indicator about the economy, and we have seen in elections past that gas prices play a heavy role. The sooner the Strait of Hormuz gets open, the better off for everybody."
