1:24Now PlayingFormer President Barack Obama celebrated the opening of his presidential center in Chicago on Thursday.
The nation's 44th commander in chief was joined by his family, a host of celebrities and three former presidents — Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Joe Biden.
In his remarks, Obama said that the $850 million center was an expression of thanks to the city that gave him his start in politics.
President Donald Trump was notably absent and Obama did not mention him by name, but there were some nods to the current administration, with Obama remarking, in his words, "how precious our democracy truly is."
The Obama Presidential Center is expected to draw more than a million visitors annually. It officially opened to the general public on Juneteenth.
