NASA is seeking volunteers  for a year-long simulated interplanetary space mission.

As early as August 2027, selected participants will spend a year living and working in two confined habitats at Johnson Space Center in Houston.

One will simulate traveling aboard an interplanetary spacecraft. The other will act as a base on a planetary surface.

The participants will experience conditions similar to those for extended space travel, like missions to the surface of the Moon or Mars.

Participants will test NASA hardware, mission protocols and more while researchers gain insights on crew health and performance on prolonged missions.

The program is called “the Moon and Mars Exploration Analog.” Those interested must go through a long, multi-day selection process, meet specific physical and education requirements and pass NASA’s psychological assessments. Those interested, can find more information on the program’s website.
