8:16Now PlayingSen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., ranking member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, made his opening statement Wednesday in a hearing with Dr. Anthony Fauci, a former top official and scientist at the National Institutes of Health who helped lead the nation’s COVID-19 pandemic response.
The hearing was aimed at again questioning Fauci on the origins of the coronavirus. Committee chair Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., subpoenaed Fauci to appear, and released more than a thousand pages of his pandemic-era diary over the weekend.
Fauci has vigorously denied Paul’s accusations that he lied about the pandemic, calling them “preposterous.”
