He downplayed the risk to those he left on the original plane while he flew on a separate one.
The New York Times reports that credible threats against the president included someone spotted near the NATO summit with a shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile and that the Iranians even knew the floor of the hotel where Trump was staying.
