0:41Now PlayingPharmaceutical giants Moderna and Merck said Wednesday that their experimental cancer treatment showed signs of success in a study with high-risk melanoma patients.
The first-of-its-kind treatment involves an mRNA vaccine that is tailored to individual patients paired with a separate immunotherapy drug, Keytruda. The combination was effective in helping prevent the skin cancer from returning or spreading.
The treatment still needs regulatory approval and the companies have only provided broad outlines of their findings. Moderna stock surged on the news, jumping nearly 177%.
