as posted by the channelSpirit Airlines' efforts to secure a $500 million rescue package from the federal government fell through Friday, a last ditch effort to save the budget airline.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Spirit will cease operations starting at 3 a.m. Eastern on Saturday.
This is the second bankruptcy for the carrier in less than a year. Conflict in the Middle East and a spike in jet fuel prices was an added pressure point. The airline has been in business for more than 40 years, rebranding as “Spirit Airlines” in 1992.
