At the time, Malcolm X was openly dismissive of the march, calling it the "Farce on Washington." Richardson went on to become friends with Malcolm X, helping him draft the charter of the Organization of AfroAmerican Unity after he left the Nation of Islam. Speaking to Democracy Now!, Richardson, 91, looks back on Malcolm X's criticisms of civil rights leaders at the time.
