He served as foreign minister under two Brazilian presidents, mostly recently Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Amorim is known for supporting SouthSouth cooperation between developing nations, recognizing the state of Palestine, diplomatically negotiating a resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue and reversing widespread economic inequality in Brazil through an income transferral program called "Bolsa Famíliar." He has just come out with a new book, "Acting GloballyMemoirs of Brazil’s Assertive Foreign Policy."
