3:37Now PlayingIn the 19th century, Tamara Lanier's enslaved ancestors Renty and Delia were depicted in photographs commissioned by Louis Agassiz, a renowned Harvard scientist. Agassiz’s intention was to use the images in the interest of advancing his racist ideology that black people were inferior to whites. Lanier is suing Harvard for the rights to the images, hoping to reclaim this relic of her family's history and dispute "the legacy that Agassiz has kind of stained my family with."
