A strong response to the Saturday protest by anti-facist counterdemonstrators overrode the presence of the white supremacist groups. Portland-based journalist and filmmaker Shane Burley describes the Proud Boys as a "far-right street gang" and says that the rally is part of a "long string of violence from both Patriot Prayer and the Proud Boys that has basically laid siege on the city."
