4:48Now PlayingThe Trump administration officially began the year-long process of withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement on Monday after they notified the United Nations of the U.S. withdrawal. If completed, this process will make the United States the only country outside of the international pact despite being the largest historic greenhouse gas emitter in the world. The 2015 pact aims to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius to offset possible catastrophic global impacts. As corporate America remains divided in regulating fossil fuel emissions under the Trump administration, we speak with Bill McKibben about the "denial machine" created by the oil industry over 30 years ago. McKibben, author and co-founder of 350.org, says that after scientists told ExxonMobil "with uncanny accuracy what the temperature in the CO2 concentration would be in 2019," they fully understood "that this was a threat to the world but also a threat to their business. They took the second more seriously than the first and began this decade-long process of … climate denial and delay."
