Lead plaintiff in the Supreme Court DACA case on why he's fighting to save the program

Martín Batalla Vidal, the lead plaintiff in the case calling for the preservation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, came to the U.S. from Mexico when he was seven years old. After graduating from school in 2008, Batalla Vidal says that he has found work in the medical field and opportunities he otherwise wouldn't have without DACA. He is one of five plaintiffs in the case at the Supreme Court, which heard oral arguments Tuesday. Since the Trump administration announced its plans to phase out DACA in 2017, Batalla Vidal says that he felt it was important to raise his voice in support of undocumented people and pursue the lawsuit. He credits his mother as the driving force behind his decision to be part of the case and says, "We owe everything to our parents. They are the original dreamers." Batalla Vidal and other DACA protected people "are all fighting for the same thing," he says. "We are fighting for DACA and the 11 million undocumented."
