Nakate was the first Fridays for Future climate striker in Uganda. We spoke with her at the U.N. climate summit in Madrid, Spain, about the way the climate crisis has affected Ugandan society. "When the family has no hope for the future, that means they will have to give away their daughters for marriage at young ages — like 15 years old, 16 years old," says Nakate. "It is really horrific to see parents give out their children. It is not because they want to — it is because it is the only way of survival."
