He now faces up to 29 years in prison. Tarana Burke, who founded the #MeToo movement in 2006, says that while this verdict is a cathartic moment for survivors, it falls short of full accountability. The problem, she says, is that the Harvey Weinsteins of the world "don't exist in isolation" — there are systems of power that permit them to commit grievous acts of violence with impunity. "If we turn a blind eye to the systems that they operate in, then we’ll just have another Harvey Weinstein. … That’s why we have to upend the system," she says.
