"We were already facing a major food crisis — that was before the coronavirus hit." Naidoo's remarks come a day after the head of the World Food Program warned that the world will see "multiple famines of biblical proportions," projected to disproportionately affect African nations, if swift action isn't taken to curb the impending crisis. Naidoo, who also previously served as secretary general of Amnesty International and executive director of Greenpeace, attributes the problem to pre-existing factors like inadequate healthcare systems and vulnerable economies. "If you don't get killed by COVID-19, you will get killed by hunger," says Naidoo.
