In recent years, the Pentagon has been building up its presence in the Asia-Pacific region to encircle China and counter its influence.
Anthropologist David Vine, author of "Base Nation," says the global U.S. military footprint makes a military conflict with China more likely in the coming years, reflecting a foreign policy that has been "hijacked by the military-industrial complex."
