Despite Anita Hill’s claims in 1991 that Clarence Thomas sexually harassed her when he was chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Thomas was appointed to the Supreme Court.

“This intersectional failure not only impacts Black women, not only impacts communities of color,” says legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw. “It undermined the security and the democracy of the entire nation.”

During his tenure on the Court, Thomas has provided the tie-breaking vote in many cases that roll back rights for people in the United States.
