On Friday January 30th, the federal judge announced her decision that counts 3 and 4 of the indictment, charging Luigi with murder and using a firearm in the course of committing a crime of violence, had to be dismissed. It's a remarkable decision in many ways, because the judge understands both that the decision will be heavily scrutinized, and that the legal reason the charges can't go forward isn't exactly grounded in common sense, but rather involves a certain kind of legal analysis that even lawyers and judges find clunky and difficult to navigate.

In this video, we review the district court's decision and do our best to explain the weirdness of its logic. In showing why the murder and firearm charges aren't legally supported, we navigate the process of analyzing what makes a crime a "crime of violence," and how the charges against Luigi fell short.
