One of the most common questions that I get from my patients is"Do I really need to eat organic?" The answer is absolutely yes. So I'm going to cover why and actually what is organic. Organic just means that they didn't add pesticides or heavy metals or fumigants to your food. It doesn't mean it has zero in it because there's so much pesticide in the environment now that they can still get into the food, but it's one of the few things that we can actually control about what happens with our food. So the things that we can control we want to control, and why? Number one, it's actually better for you. There's more nutrients in organic food, and we need nutrients to run our biochemistry and physiology. The next thing to know about is that the toxins in your food that you absorb into your body are actually cumulative, so you can only get rid of so much at any given time, and they actually build up in your body. So it turns out even though you might not notice a difference between eating the organic celery now, you might not have any symptoms, later, it can actually make you sick. So you can actually end up paying a lot more later on your medical bills than paying for the organic food now. But it turns out that you can actually save money by eating organic. You can shop at Costco. Some of these grocery stores are actually doing a really good job of providing organic produce for about the same cost or even less as the ones that are not. And then, if you actually stay away from the packaged foods like the Oreos and the sodas and the prepared foods, you can also save money on your grocery bill. There's a great resource called Environmental Working Group, , that can help you with prioritizing exactly which foods should be eating organic most of the time. So I've got some examples here. Like apples, it's really better to never eat an apple that's not organic because they are so heavily pesticided. So that's called the Dirty Dozen, and then they have a list of the Clean 15, which are less important. I still really try to eat organic as much as I can when I'm here in my own kitchen, then don't worry about it so much eating out. Although, I really do try to support the restaurants that are making an effort to include organic food. In fact, I just saw an organic restaurant in an airport recently, and what you wanna do is really be voting with your dollars. So the more organic produce we buy, the more that's gonna be available and the less expensive it'll be. And then the last thing that I wanna share with you is how important is it to actually eat foods that help us to detoxify. We need to be helping our bodies to eliminate the toxins from our body. So I've got some of my favorite organic produce that helps us do that right now. The bok choy is a really good choice. Cauliflower's one of my favorites. I like to put this into cauliflower soup, and then I add as much cabbage to things that I'm cooking as possible because it's got so many nutrients in it and it really helps to detoxify. And then another thing that really needs to be done organic are onions, and they make everything good, and they help us to detoxify. If you found this information helpful, please share it with your friends, family and those that you love to help me with my mission to make Every Life Well.
