Shahada Calligraphy Lesson - Islamisation or Religious Diversity?

Augusta County Virginia school system decided to close all schools on Friday, December 18 2015 due to fallout from an Islamic Calligraphy lesson featuring the Shahada, or Muslim Oath of devotion to Allah. In English, the oath reads: "I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah." Students were instructed to attempt to copy the creed, as it was written in it's Arabic form, as part of aforementioned calligraphy lesson based on religion. This is a very serious creed that is not to be taken lightly, and the students were not told what it actually translated to in English.

One of the student's parents most likely picked up on it, and called the school system to complain. Once it got media coverage, more parents began to complain, then there may have been calls from across the country that were unsettling enough to cause a total school closure for the day.

Greenville, Virginia and Augusta County in general is not a po-dunk hick town. It is essentially a small, middle American place. Mostly white and protestant. Located right at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains in the western part of Virginia, right around the intersection of interstate 81 and interstate 64. A nice place to visit, well kept, with minimal crime if any.

These people are not generally bigots or hateful. They just have common sense and don't want to be infiltrated with a religion that goes against their own. And also, they, just like any one else, have seen kids from the US and other western countries become indoctrinated with radical Islamism. They see how it can ruin people and tear apart families. The government, including one Mr. Donald Trump, is trying to do things like "shut down parts of the internet" to prevent radicalizing people. But wouldn't make sense to... I don't know... not have students write the creed of shahada —that's featured on every Islamic terrorist flag— in Arabic in class?
