Don't compare the Oregon Federal Building Takeover to Black Lives Matter.

Oregon is not under attack. #oregonunderattack is a false narrative. It's just a knee-jerk, racist reaction to a story of white people with guns doing something wrong. The back story is that a peaceful protest with over 300 people turned into splinter cells of people taking over a federal building. But that "federal building" is what essentially amounts to a visitor center on a nature reserve in the rural woods of Oregon. Not like a Timothy McVeigh situation. The building was also unoccupied and closed because of the Holiday weekend at the time when the :armed militia" took it over.

People staged the protest over the arrest and jailing of two farmers (a father and son) in the local area of Oregon. Their names are Dwight Lincoln Hammond, Jr. (age 73) and his son Steven Dwight Hammond (age 46). The protest with armed militia is similar to the Bundy Ranch protest in 2014 in Nevada. Three of Cliven Bundy's sons, including Ammon Bundy and Randy Bundy, are also at the scene in Oregon to provide support. Nobody has been hurt at all. The militia says they won't hurt anyone unless the police try to forcibly remove them.

The central issue here is that the two people involved with the arson had already been locked up and served sentences for it. The father served three months and the son served one year. The federal mandatory minimum says that their sentence should be five years, but the local court in Oregon said it was unconstitutional, in agreement with what the two people in question said. However, the federal judge who presides over Oregon (Chief U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken) reviewed it after the fact, and upheld the mandatory minimum. So they have to go BACK to jail to serve the mandatory minimum, minus time served. They will report peacefully, but the protestors are there to speak up against it.
