as posted by the channelNFL football player and quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, has decided that he wants to back off of his protest and stand up for the national anthem, rather than sitting down and kneeling before and during it. He just so happens to also be a free agent, which means his contract with the San Francisco 49ers has come to an end and he is up on the “market” so to speak. He can sign a contract with any team that he likes… as long as the team is willing to have him. Kaepernick’s reason for abandoning the National Anthem protest is because the initial reason he did it was to shed light to injustices wrought against American citizens by agents of the government and not to be a distraction himself. He says that his efforts in the community now speak for themselves.
But the bigger reason is obviously the business side of things. Kaepernick once had a contract with a total value of $111 million dollars with the 49ers. But one thing about the NFL is that it’s more of a “what have you done for me lately” type of league. If a person performs well on and off the field for a period of time then their skills and attitude begin to change, they are the equivalent to village lepers. Nobody wants to touch them with a 10 foot pole. So the appropriate thing to do here is to maximize his stock by dropping a thing that can be considered “baggage” and “distracting” by suitable employers. Free market economics 101 in full effect. Which is part of what has made America great and what can make it Great Again.
