Asian Doctor David Dao Gets Dragged off of Overbooked United Airlines Flight (REACTION)

Asian (Vietnamese) Doctor David Dao was forcibly removed (read: dragged) off of a United Airlines flight due to his name being randomly drawn by a computer algorithm after nobody volunteered to de-plane due to the plane being over booked. This happened at Chicago O’Hare airport and the flight was on it’s way to Louisville, Kentucky, the area where the doctor lives. The reasoning for him originally refusing to get off of the plane is that he had patients to see once he got back to Kentucky. It was an ugly scene that caught wildfire on social media and it has prompted a (public, not private) apology from United’s CEO.

What made this scene ugly was the fact that Dao’s face became bloody after he was dragged off of the plane through the aisle. In the struggle to remove him from his seated position on the plane, it appears as if he fell and hit his head on the armrest, which caused his mouth to bleed. It appeared as if he was also knocked out due to hitting his head so violently. Somehow, he was able to regain consciousness after being totally removed from the plane at which time he re-boarded, looking dazed and confused chanting “I have to go home.” He was eventually taken off again, this time on a stretcher to be taken to a hospital for observation. Apparently, he is ok aside from the wound somewhere inside of his mouth.

Calls for lawsuits against United have come fast and furious. The airline may not have violated their actual policy which people agree to by default when they purchase a ticket, but this situation may play itself out in civil court and could result in the doctor being paid a sum of money to prevent any further public relations drama. It is not a shining endorsement for your airline to have a doctor get knocked out and dragged off of your flight. Even if the doctor in question has a shady past. TMZ has alleged that Dr. David Dao was convicted on felony drug charges in 2005. These charges are centered around him illegal prescribing hydrocodone, oxycontin, and percocet. Dao did not receive any jail time but he did get 5 years of probation and his license to practice medicine was (allegedly revoked for 10 years). He is now reportedly only able to practice medicine once per week. According to TMZ, Dao also became a poker player after his medical license was revoked and has about $230k in career earnings.

His criminal background and overall interesting story may not come into play as it relates to this situation which is no more than a PR nightmare. The police/security who removed them are not at fault and United may not be either, but the general public doesn’t really care and that may be why they settle out of court.
