as posted by the channelDonald Trump, Jr. met with a Russian Lawyer with alleged connections to the Russian Government at the behest of a family acquaintance Rob Goldstone. About one year ago, an exchange of emails were sent between Trump, Jr. and Goldstone to set up a meeting. The intent of the meeting was to get opposition research on Hillary Clinton. When the meeting actually took place, what was promised to be revealed in the meeting was not revealed at all. It was more of a bait and switch situation that lasted for about 20 minutes. After the meeting, no more contact was had with the “Russian lawyer.” Goldstone and Trump, Jr. remained acquaintances.
Fast forward to just a few days ago in July of 2017, Donald Trump Jr. decides to release the entire thread of emails between himself and Rob Goldstone for the sake of honesty and transparency. It’s not quite clear what prompted this action. When the mainstream media got a hold of this information, it was a frenzy. All of the late night talk show hosts did extended monologues about it. Democrat politicians like Tim Kaine said that this may be the equivalent to treason. Others say that this is the proverbial “smoking gun” that the left and mainstream media have been looking for. The only problem with the smoking gun theory is that there is no corpse to connect to the gun. Meetings are allowed to take place between people. Freedom of association. So no law was broken. The meeting was uneventful and no sensitive information was given. If any sensitive information was to be revealed that impacted national security in any way, there is no evidence that Trump, Jr. would not have handed it over to the proper authorities. In the words of Van Jones, it was a big “nothing burger.”
