as posted by the channelIn the movie Black Panther, T’Challa is challenged as the King of Wakanda by an outsider named Erik Killmonger. Killmonger finds out that his father was killed by his uncle and T’Challa’s father, T’Chaka. He grows up through life with anger and a chip on his shoulder due to this fact. He carries it with him through his stellar MIT and Military career. At a certain point, he essentially becomes a ruthless mercenary for the Government, toppling foreign regimes with a seemingly insatiable bloodthirst.
Fast forward, Killmonger and T’Challa have a fight to determine who the righteous leader is. It appears as if Killmonger wins, and he immediately begins to change things in Wakanda… for the worse. Wakandans retrieve T’Challa and lead a revolt against Erik Killmonger and Wakanda is restored to normal.
Many black folks who saw the movie look at Erik Killmonger as the hero rather than the villain because of the things he said throughout the movie. Much of it was the typical black llives matter, social justice warrior types of things. He wanted to use Wakanda’s technology and resources to help blacks around the world to fight “oppression.” He was against “white supremacy.” But yet, he was the type of person who would kill anyone to get his way. Which was basically to have unfettered access to Wakanda’s resources.
T’Challa is seen by many moviegoers as the weaker character due to his reluctance to interfere in non-Wakandan issues. In many ways, he is like Donald Trump. Wakanda first. He was also somewhat like Obama. Charismatic and loved by many as his father was but a charlatan due to not helping blacks outside of Wakanda.
In this video, I break down the difference between the two men and explain why a calm, cool, collected and intelligent individual who leads with his brain is a better king than a man who is strong and intelligent but is also bloodthirsty and driven by blind, angry emotion.
