Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Ford Circus Hearing Recap and Reaction

Brett Kavanaugh gave a riveting opening statement during the Thursday Senate hearing to clear his name of accusations from his sexual assault accuser Christine Blasey Ford who said he assaulted her at a high school party. During the 8+ hour hearing, many questions were asked and much political posturing happened. Ford delivered her testimony and answered questions first without Kavanaugh in the room. GOP hired questioner Rachel Mitchell lobbed softball after softball at Ford in what appeared to be an attempt at being the “good cop” so there would be no optics of “a bunch of old white guys attacking an alleged survivor.”

Blasey Ford’s testimony was full of holes to say the least. She doesn’t really remember the year the alleged incident between her and Kavanaugh happened. But she does remember her age which was allegedly 15. She doesn’t really remember where it happened or who all was at the party. People that she places at the party have all said that they recall no such thing, including a very close female friend of hers at the time. Even with all of that, many people said her testimony seemed credible.

Around 3pm Eastern Time, long after the 10am start, Brett Kavanaugh finally had his chance to speak. He gave a fact and emotion filled opening statement which lasted what felt like an eternity, but was at least 20 minutes. Very detailed and straightforward without any holes or room for interpretation, unlike Ford. One key thing he brought up was his use of calendars as both a diary and a calendar. He kept detailed records of activities he participated in on a daily basis and has been doing so to this day.

According to his calendars, he was out of town every weekend during the summer of 1982 if that’s when the alleged party happened. Since everyone usually worked summer jobs, that’s most likely when a party would have happened. During the weekday, he also had a very busy schedule. Any gatherings he attended he would write the names of individuals that were there. Furthermore, he said he was a virgin all throughout high school and many years thereafter. His relationships with girls at the time was more of a friendly thing and nothing more.

Democrats may know that Christine Blasey Ford does not have much to go after Kavanaugh with, but the goal here appears to be at least to get (another) FBI investigation so the vote to confirm him can be delayed until after the midterms. A shameful thing… to ruin a man and his family’s lives all for a bigger political game.
