as posted by the channelKanye West made statements on Twitter about abolishing the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and received a ton of backlash for it. “Celebrities” such as Lana Del Ray aka Elizabeth Woolridge Grant and Chris Evans released “scathing” statements against West on social media. Ava DuVernay, director of the “13th” Documentary, also spoke out against him on Twitter. All of these celebrities are virtue-signaling simply because Kanye West is a Trump supporter. Especially Ava DuVernay, because Kanye West’s point actually supports her own documentary.
And that point to his statements was that while the 13th Amendment did abolish slavery in one sense, in another sense, it did not. According to the text of the document, slavery is still permissible if the person was convicted of a crime and is currently in prison or jail. Which is why prisoners are legally able to work for less than minimum wage. Kanye later clarified his comments to point out what should be clear to liberals who agree with an Ava DuVernay… that he was simply speaking of the clause that still allows for slavery in certain circumstances.
