YouTube Description
as posted by the channelI had the time of my life at Turning Point USA’s Young Black Leadership Summit. Not only was this event fun, but it was life changing for mostly everyone who attended. The White House event featuring Donald Trump and also Candace Owens + Kanye West’s involvement with BLEXIT were the main things that made the news, but the 4-day-long event was so much more than that.
Personally, I was able to reconnect (in person) with great people I met out in Phoenix earlier this year for the Black Influencer’s Retreat which was organized primarily by Brandon Tatum (as was YBLS). These are some of the best people I’ve ever met and I consider them close as (or closer than) my own family. Like-minded people with similar life experience who all have a common interest are difficult to find.
As for the YBLS attendees, there were about 400 of them from all across the country. A crazy rumor started about all of us being paid to visit the White House which is simply false. Most of us had our flights and rooms paid for, but that’s where it stops. Some kids there had to get clothes donated to them in order to dress appropriately for the White House visit. One young man I met drove 24 hours with a buddy from Texas because they couldn’t afford the plane ticket up front.
Some would ask why an event like this is needed. Well the short answer is that being a black conservative in America is more taboo than being a homosexual or any other thing that goes against the norm of society. Many of us feel isolated away from family members that do not approve of our political ideology which puts on an island, lonely and striving for connection with people who have had similar life experiences as us, which is what this conference was able to provide, in a big way.
