Florida Midterms Are A Mess Thanks To Incompetent Brenda Snipes!

2018’s Florida Midterm elections are a mess and undecided nearly a week after election day. Both the Senate and Governor races have both been declared “too close to call” with only about 15,000 votes difference between each. In both races, the Republican is winning. Ron DeSantis over Andrew Gillum for the Governor, and Rick Scott over Bill Nelson for the Senate. One county in particular is making this process creep on for longer than it should and that is Broward, in South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale). And the person in charge is the highly controversial Brenda Snipes.

Amid calls for recounts and a “de-conceding” from Andrew Gillum along with high confidence in a come from behind victory from Bill Nelson, all eyes are on Brenda Snipes. This particular county has nearly 2 million people and is considered a liberal stronghold. Rick Scott’s Senate team has sued Broward for the release of the number of ballots yet to be counted without much in terms of cooperation. Therefore, the election process cannot continue. If there are less ballots yet to be counted than there is a difference between the two candidates in question, then there won’t be an effect on the final result and the show can go on.

This is not the first time Broward County has had issues with elections under Brenda Snipes. In years past, even as recently as 2016 (not including this year) there have been several issues. Sometimes a particular measure won’t reach some ballots. 58,000 provisional ballots did not mail out by a certain time to those who requested it which left the office scrambling at the last minute to try and make it happen. Ballots were destroyed 12 months after the Debbie Wasserman Shultz election (in which she won) a year after the election whereas federal law says you must wait a certain number of months closer to two years. The list goes on. Some say that Snipes is corrupt and maybe so, but incompetence seems to be the main theme here.
