Sargon of Akkad Has No One To Blame But Himself For His Patreon Ban!

Controversial YouTuber Sargon of Akkad was removed from the crowd-funding website Patreon recently without warning or explanation. After a little bit of digging, it was discovered that he used racial slurs repeatedly during a podcast on an obscure YouTube channel about 10 months from the time of his removal from the platform. Many have been boycotting Patreon by deleting their accounts, therefore removing monthly monetary pledges to other content creators in the process. Accusations of freedom of speech violation and more are being thrown around.

The greater question to ask here is… whose fault is this really? Is Patreon wrong for deleting Sargon of Akkad’s account without notice for using foul language on a random YouTube livestream? Is Sargon of Akkad wrong for using racial slurs which violates Patreon’s terms of service, although the violation was not done on his channel or on Patreon itself? The answer here is clear, in my opinion. Sargon of Akkad was wrong for using the racial slurs. For no other reason than the fact that he knows who he is. He recognizes his own popularity and image.

Precedent for this situation had been set prior to Sargon of Akkad appearing on that livestream. PewDiePie changed the whole direction of YouTube for using the same racial slur as Sargon just one time during a stream. He immediately apologized afterwards but it was not enough. The “Adpocalypse” was born. John Schnatter of Papa John’s used the same word in proper context and then found himself out of the company that he started. The list goes on.

Sargon says he was using the word to attack the alt-right for their usage of it and views of black people. In reality, there was no *need* to use it. It just fits with his edgy image. Yes, there is hypocrisy here. Patreon is hypocritical with how they enforce their policy because it’s selective. Sargon is a liberal but is not seen as such by many. If he was, then there would be little controversy here. Is that right? No, but it’s reality and Sargon has to understand that as well as everyone else.
