11:56Now PlayingPopular radio show host and owner of The Blaze, Glenn Beck, has acquired CRTV through his company. CRTV will now be known as BlazeTV. One of their very first announcements, via Twitter, was that controversial figure and former Proud Boys “leader” Gavin McInnes would not be coming back. Most figures online (including myself) immediately assumed that Glenn Beck, a never Trumper and near-liberal, was responsible for Gavin’s departure, but that may not be totally true. Beck has come out to defend him and said that the departure was out of his hands and was relating to something that had been going on with CRTV before the merger.
Beck’s defense of McInnes aside, this merger screams of failure from the beginning. It looks like CRTV was having financial problems and needed a bailout of sorts. Mark Steyn sued CRTV and won a million dollar plus judgement that has yet to be paid. Rumor has it that CRTV was attempting to go bankrupt to not pay the money. Maybe it’s possible that Glenn Beck decided to pay the lawsuit and take over the company to keep it alive? Who knows. But if money is the problem, it probably won’t be solved with Beck’s help. Especially since they have been losing paid subscribers since the merger was announced.
Some people love Glenn Beck which is why he’s worth a quarter of a billion dollars. On the other hand, CRTV loyalists may be a totally different audience than Beck’s core audience. Therefore, this merger could fail in the long run (or maybe short run.) Michelle Malkin quit the day the merger was announced. Steven Crowder (Louder With Crowder) appears to have already been having money issues as he fired up to half of his staff and took a leave of absence for “medical reasons.” Is he gone for the reasons stated or is money the problem? Will it be fixed with Glenn Beck’s infusion of capitol? Only time will tell… but the outlook doesn’t look fantastic based upon Glenn Beck’s history.
