James “Mad Dog” Mattis Retires After Trump Pulls Troops From Syria. Is This A Good Thing?

US Defense Secretary James Mattis has submitted his resignation effective February 28, 2019. The letter materialized just one day after President Trump announced he would be pulling all 2,000 US troops out of Syria. Many in the intelligence community, presumably including Mr. Mattis, are upset with the Syria move. And also the potential for troops to be removed from Afghanistan, a different topic altogether. As for Syria, fears of a “vacuum” forming are evident as well as the Kurds being left out to dry without Americans backing them up.

Donald Trump has been a non-interventionist from the beginning. Which is a big reason why many people voted for him. Pulling troops out of Syria and potentially Afghanistan, in addition to not starting new conflicts overseas are part of his campaign promises.

In the resignation letter Mattis sent to the President, it was evident that he agrees with Trump’s viewpoint about not being the “world police” but may break with him when it comes to being anti globalism. References to “coalition of nations” and the UN itself are mentioned. Big red flags to a person trying to avoid overseas conflict.

Many common citizens may be upset with James Mattis’ resignation but they must ask themselves… why? Is it truly that bad that a globalist Secretary of Defense decides to retire so a more non-globalist person can step into their shoes?
