as posted by the channelNew Jersey Senator Cory Booker (D) officially announced his candidacy for President of the United States on Friday, joining what is expected to be a crowded Democrat primary field. The announcement was made with a social media video on the first day of black history month. If elected President, he would be the first unmarried president since 1885 (Grover Cleveland). He also does not have children. Both aforementioned facts - and his oft-awkward behavior - have led to gay rumors. After years of not really responding to the rumors directly on principle, he finally came out last year and declaratively stated that he is a heterosexual.
Booker is the former mayor of Newark and the current Senator serving alongside Bob Menendez (D). Nothing much of any substance was accomplished while he was mayor, and not much has been accomplished now that he is the Senator. His political position may just be nothing more than a vehicle for name recognition to raise his Presidential stock. He is not much more than a “checkmark” candidate. By being relatively young (49) and racially ambiguous with the ability to identify as African American, he is what the Democrat party would like to invest money into. Same goes for Kamala Harris.
