13:45Now PlayingWhite Americans are “still running” elsewhere when minorities and immigrants move into their communities, Michelle Obama observed Tuesday. The former first lady made the remarks at the Obama Foundation Summit, held at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
Obama fails to mention, however, the concept of “black flight” which she, herself, actually participated in. She mentioned that her mother moved their family to a mostly white area of Chicago for access to better schools.
The obvious question must be, is that the only reason why they moved? Or was it to escape their majority-black, low-income neighborhood? And why do the Obamas now live in mostly white and gated neighborhoods, away from black people? Hypocrisy may be the answer.
