The sole purpose of Media Matters is arguably to take down popular conservative people. They attempted to ruin Elon Musk over a report they published concerning extremist posts appearing next to ads. This was ultimately debunked, and the fallout could have caused them to violate a law in Missouri, as they had used the debunked report to solicit donations.
