as posted by the channelPeat fires burning in Sumatra produced a carbon monoxide plume visible from space in this series of data images from NASA's space borne AIRS instrument.
Although it is a weak greenhouse gas, carbon monoxide has important indirect effects on global warming. The reaction of CO with other chemical compounds in Earth's atmosphere increases the global warming potential of greenhouse gases, such as methane and carbon dioxide.
