The Gravity Laser Nobody Knew Was Being Built

Gary Stephenson got interested in gravitational wave communication because he was assigned to redesign how the military talks to submarines. The only method at the time was flying an aircraft in circles trailing a kilometers long wire while the submarine deployed its own kilometers long tail antenna. He thought there had to be a better way. There is. A phased array of Josephson junction chips tuned to 24 gigahertz converts photons into gravitational waves that pass straight through solid rock, seawater, and underground facilities without attenuation. Same device flipped around works as a receiver. Gravitational wave in. Photon out. A communication system that goes through anything. Then Stephenson casually mentions Josephson junctions are already used to detect nuclear detonations. The host cannot believe what he just heard. Of course they are. And of course the government already has this. Gary just described it out loud.
